NOTE: As of early 2021, these browser settings changes may no longer fix your video issues. The HTTPS stream is being blocked and the Polar Cloud is falling back to the “Snapshots” in nearly all cases. Modern browsers no longer like the embedding of an HTTP video source in an HTTPS page at all.

We’re working as fast as we can to address a video routing fix that will address the issue and last through any further changes in new web standards.

Google is rolling out gradual changes to the Google Chrome browser to block mixed-content rendering and mixed-content downloads. Starting in January 2021, Google will change Chrome’s default settings to block HTTP file downloads of images, docs, and PDFs from HTTPS sites, calling it “Insecure Content on a Secured Page”.

This affects the Polar Cloud because your camera feed, if streaming, is an HTTP feed on an HTTPS (Polar3d.com) page.

What can I do to fix it?

Chrome only changed the default handling of this sort of content, they still allow you to set how what type of content you want to see from the websites you visit. Making the change below will not compromise or affect your browsing on other sites - the Site Settings you save are site specific.

  1. Go to polar3d.com

  2. Click the padlock icon to the left of the URL Bar

  3. Click “Site Settings”

  4. Change “Insecure Content” to “Allow”, then Save

How long will this workaround solve my issue?
We’re not sure. It’s likely that other browsers will follow suit soon, given the heightened focus on customer data in this increasingly digital age. Your camera might still work in Firefox without any adjustments, but Mozilla wrote a blog blog post about the issue, and a release could be imminent.

What about other Browsers?
Other browsers will likely follow suit, given the importance of encrypted and secure data in the digital age. Firefox has referenced this in this blog post (see “Making the Web Safer), but has not scheduled a release past beta.
