Polar Cloud Login Methods:

  • Google

  • Facebook

  • Microsoft

  • Apple

Why Can’t I Create an Account with an Email and Password?

OAuth is the preferred login method of the Polar Cloud and protects users and their data. No details are stored on Polar Cloud servers and the shared resources are protected, and thus remain opaque to the Polar Cloud.

The OAuth 2.0 authorization framework allows a user to grant a third-party web site or application access to the user’s protected resources, without necessarily revealing their long-term credentials or even their identity.

Why Does Polar Need My Google Info!?

The “Scopes” requested by the Polar Cloud upon login can sure look daunting! Why would Polar want to see, edit, create, and delete my Google Drive files! Isn’t that illegal? Same with my Google Classroom!

You’ll notice that even Google’s own product, Google Ads asks for authorization up front, in order to perform certain tasks on the user’s behalf.

The Drive integration is used if and only if the user decides they want to load a 3D Printable STL File to the Polar Cloud from their Google Drive files. This is useful for Chromebook and iPad users, or other devices that don’t have a conventional filesystem.

The Classroom integration is used if and only if the user wants to import their students into their Polar Cloud School.

If you’d like to remove these permissions you are free to do so and will not harm the authorized login integration. Scopes can be removed by following these steps.
